CGFNS Assessment of General Nursing Knowledge

The CGFNS Assessment of General Nursing Knowledge (AGNK) is a test that predicts the ability of an applicant to be successful in providing in-country nursing care.

This pilot program was introduced in India and focuses on enhancing the employability of nurses within India and in other countries outside the United States. The test does not substitute for the State Nursing Council Examination required for licensure in India, nor is it used for immigration purposes.

Although developed for local use, it also provides additional value as an international standard of assessment. The AGNK can be designed to the specific dimensions of the end-user, and thus can be used in a variety of professional, clinical and educational arenas.

This test is developed and builds on CGFNS International’s 30 years of experience in predicting success on the NCLEX-RN®. The CGFNS AGNK measures a nurse’s basic knowledge. It establishes a minimum standard for a first-level, general nurse to practice locally or in other countries and provides decision makers across the globe with information to make important decisions about nursing candidates.

Institution / Employer benefits

The CGFNS AGNK can be tailored to an employer’s or institution’s (hospital or clinic) specific clinical needs for nursing care, or to a country’s licensing examination. It is designed to determine an applicant’s ability to make sound decisions in many areas of professional health care delivery practice. The test can be constructed to assess nursing knowledge in areas determined by the authority using it. The exam may be used as:

  • a screening assessment of local nurses’ knowledge for clinical assignment (to assist with hiring)
  • a screening assessment of fundamental nursing knowledge of nurses educated outside of their own country
  • an eligibility prerequisite for admission to a country’s licensing examination
  • a requirement for licensure renewal
  • a pre-test/certification for promotional screening into specific clinical areas and/or
  • a benchmark to validate the nursing knowledge of Indian nursing students before or after graduation.

The CGFNS AGNK may be used as a pre-screening tool to assess clinical skills and knowledge for new hires or current clinicians. It provides an employer with critical information that will aid in the recruitment of nurses and their placement on appropriate clinical units.

Nurse benefits

The CGFNS AGNK helps nurses identify key strengths and weaknesses and assists in identifying continuing education needs. It can also be used to validate the nursing knowledge of Indian nursing students upon graduation from colleges and nursing schools.
