CGFNS International appoints new chief executive officer
CGFNS Board of Trustees president Carol Bradley, MSN, RN, announced on 9 May 2011 the appointment of Franklin A. Shaffer, EdD, RN, FAAN, as the new chief executive officer of CGFNS International, succeeding Barbara L. Nichols, DHL, MS, RN, FAAN, who is retiring in June 2011.
Dr Shaffer was previously executive vice president of Cross Country Healthcare and chief nursing officer for Cross Country Staffing where he was instrumental in transforming an industry and the way in which it was perceived by the professional nursing community. He was appointed by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO or the Joint Commission) to serve on their Nursing Advisory Council. Prior to his tenure with Cross Country Staffing, Dr Shaffer held key positions with the National League for Nursing (NLN). He earned his doctorate in nursing from Columbia University in New York City and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN).
“We look forward to continuing CGFNS International’s role as a global resource for credentials evaluation and assessment of health care professionals to protect the public under Dr Shaffer’s leadership and the engagement of his strategic relationship building excellence,” said Bradley. “At the same time, we say goodbye to an extraordinary nurse leader who has worked tirelessly to promote CGFNS International across the globe.”
Under Dr Nichols’s stewardship, CGFNS has fulfilled its leadership role as a global resource for knowledge and fairness pertaining to the ethical recruitment of foreign-educated health care professionals and protection of the health care consumer, secured authorization from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to conduct visa credentials assessment certifications for health care workers seeking an occupational visa to work in the United States, and implemented a technology-based solution for online applications and assessment services.
