CGFNS Chief Executive Officer to address minority panel

CGFNS International CEO Dr Barbara L. Nichols will address the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Minority Health during a two-day conference on 6 July 2010 in Washington, D.C. Dr Nichols will participate on a panel discussion on the subject of foreign-educated nurses in the United States health care workforce. She will provide information on the diversification of the U.S. nursing workforce that has resulted from the migration of foreign-educated nurses.

“Foreign-educated nurses have been significant participants in the U.S. nursing workforce since World War II,” said Nichols. “I am pleased to present data that identifies their historic and continuing contribution.”

Before joining CGFNS, Dr Nichols previously served as former President of the American Nurses Association, Professor of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing, Director of Nursing for the Wisconsin Area Health Education Center System and Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee has been established to advise the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) on matters of importance to the health of racial and ethnic minority populations. The group is positioned to influence the evolving national conversation on reforming health care policy and practice.
