CGFNS throws “Flavors of the World” reception to kick off its silver celebrations

Friends and colleagues came together to help the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) celebrate a milestone — 25 years of excellence serving the global health care community!

The Commission hosted a special “Flavors of the World” reception on 22 May 2002, in honor of its silver anniversary year. CGFNS welcomed neighbors and colleagues from all over the Philadelphia business community, as well as some national and international guests, to share in the festive celebration.

The reception, held in the Esther M. Klein Art Gallery, located in the lobby of CGFNS’s headquarters in Philadelphia, featured exotic tastes and sounds of the world as a tribute to the Commission’s international clientele and colleagues. Guests nibbled international cuisine while they enjoyed the wonderful music by the world band Exodus.

Philadelphia Mayor John Street proclaimed 22 May 2002, as “CGFNS Day” in recognition of the contributions CGFNS has made to the local, national and international health care community for the last 25 years. Representatives from Mayor Street’s office and U.S. Senator Rick Santorum’s office attended and read letters of congratulations, as well as the proclamation, and CGFNS President Phyllis Kritek gave a brief welcome address.

The Flavors of the World reception was the first event held in celebration of CGFNS’s 25th anniversary. CGFNS is planning a number of special events to celebrate its anniversary throughout 2002 and 2003.

For 25 years the Commission has committed itself to protecting the American public by ensuring that internationally educated nurses and other health care professionals, who wish to practice in the United States, are eligible and qualified to meet U.S. licensure and practice requirements. In addition to protecting the public trust, CGFNS has also been dedicated to fostering equitable treatment of health care professionals worldwide.

CGFNS, an immigration-neutral, nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, has earned an international reputation as the foremost authority on the education, practice standards, registration and licensure of nurses and other health care professionals worldwide. CGFNS’s mission is to provide responsible leadership in the delivery of relevant services to the global nursing and health care community.

The organization was founded in 1977 through a collaborative effort by representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor; Department of State; Department of Health, Education and Welfare (now the Department of Health and Human Services); the Immigration and Naturalization Service; and representation from nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.

Throughout its history the Commission has demonstrated its commitment to excellence and quality in the health care arena. CGFNS provides services that evaluate, test and verify the education, registration and licensure credentials of internationally educated health care professionals. These services assist many organizations, such as state regulatory boards, universities, hospitals, immigration lawyers and government agencies.

Today, as CGFNS looks back and celebrates its past successes over the last 25 years, it looks forward to a future of equal promise and renewed dedication to serving the global health care community with integrity and excellence. We invite you to celebrate with us.
